Important limitations of LearnOptix simulators and educational content in clinical or optical practice.
Last updated: 21 October 2026
For education, not clinical decision-making
LearnOptix is designed to help people see, learn and understand ideas in ophthalmic optics and optometry. Simulators illustrate educational models and may simplify real optical systems so that specific relationships are easier to understand.
Not a substitute for instruments or professional care
Simulation outputs are not validated measurements of a real patient or spectacle lens. They do not replace a calibrated lensmeter, comprehensive eye examination, professional dispensing, lens-manufacturing quality control or clinical judgment. Do not use simulator outputs alone to prescribe, verify lenses for patients or diagnose eye conditions.
Model assumptions
For example, the homepage ray diagram uses an ideal paraxial thin-lens approximation and is explicitly not to scale. Real ophthalmic lenses involve thickness, vertex distance, material properties, surface design and higher-order aberrations that can matter in practice.
